New York Minute

Back in the US of A at last, but not on land for long; the sandy shores of Satellite Beach Florida beckoned and I was only 48 hours from answering their call. After finally slipping into bed about 8AM Israeli time, not having slept for a good 24 hours, I greeted my day and a half in the city with a tourist’s energy and a New Yorker’s long list of errands. Ah, how I missed the endless, expansive noise, the sickeningly sweet-n-sour smell of the garbage overflowing by 4PM and the 24-hour delivery!

But the one thing I missed most about the City, my City — aside from my friends, their jokes, their laughter and positive energy — was looking up at the tip-tops of those glass and steel canyons and feeling the elation of being alive and involved in such a magnificent place. Between the to-dos, the catch-up lunches and the prep for another trip, my eyes drifted skyward over and over and over again …
